Dear fam,
I’m so very pumped to share some big news with you all: After a long hiatus, Dreams of Chaos are coming back! Some of you are new here and may not know what that means, so here’s a little background to get us all up to speed. 😊
When I first started writing the Chaos Palace it had three main sections:
This Week at the Chaos Palace wherein I’d relate an update on my own experiences with chaos, particularly through the prism of being a neurospicy queer mama to two chaotic little ones, with a dash of Jewish thought.
[Now Defunct] Chaotic Conversations, envisioned as a space to talk about complex stuff in the world.
Dreams of Chaos, a space for Q&As with artists, activists, and other professionals doing outside-the-box work.
Over time, the Chaos Palace both expanded and contracted; such is life, it invites us to fluctuate as the world shifts. I added two new sections: I Am Chaos is where I began to create long-form researched pieces about how I experience symptoms of ADHD, and Chaos in the Wild is about how chaos in the world seeps into our everyday lives.
As for Dreams if Chaos? I published a dozen or so of these over the course of 2023 and 2024, including conversations with:
Caitlin Cook about her one-woman bathroom-graffiti-based musical
Katherine Studley about being an advocate and accountant for sex workers
Dr. Andrew Kahn about how ADHD can be a strength
Em Chiappinelli about how expanding awareness is key to finding one-ness with the world
Patty Roache about the art of queering the opera
I believe with my whole heart in the power of personal narrative and perspective to change the world. That belief is at the heart of why I publish these Q&As. It’s what lends so much strength to some of my favorite Substacks, including (but not limited to)
, , , , and .And that’s why I’m overjoyed to be gearing up for a new season of Dreams.
I’ve got some wonderful folks lined up for you this season: A comedian and storyteller who talks about race, American history and the bullshit of the BMI. A performance artist who is deconstructing (and reconstructing) what it means to dance and act. A musician who lives everywhere and breathes through her chaotic moments. An award-winning poet whose words transport readers. And so many more!
That’s all, really. I just wanted to give you a heads up that these will start landing in your inbox next week, and every two weeks after that.
Sending love,
Mikhal
P.S. Cookie says it best:
Welcome to the Chaos Palace is the space where I write about ADHD, queerness, Judaism, and how to navigate the mess that is the world. You can support my work by sharing this post with others, subscribing, or clicking the like button (the algorithm gets happy when you do that). Or just read! That’s huge, too.
