I'm so sorry love... I haven't been able to take a deep breath (or even anything deeper than a shallow breath) since last night either...

Thank you, love. Sending you hugs and more hugs.

I do need all the hugs. All of them. I’m so worried about my fam in the US, my family’s friends in Gaza (which, I mean, what more is there to say…), just everyone.

The sheer number of people who will suffer… I can’t get my head around it.

BTW, I remember reading your first published article, and am very proud of you for having become a writer. Keep using your unique voice and speak up for your rights and for the rights of the oppressed.

Thank you so much! I can't believe how different things were back then — and how much is the same.

Yes, it's a moment of reckoning to see how deep the roots of white supremacy are... how European colonialism stays in the blood of so many white folks and remain pretty much unchanged despite civic and social progress. It's a sad sad day!

Truly. And I'll add misogyny. The heartbreak is unbelievable.

Absolutely true. In fact, I believe that misogyny is at the heart of it all. How do you explain the white women who voted for Trump? Having seen the inner dynamics of how even well educated women are controlled, coerced and cheated on by their husbands, I can make a pretty good educated guess on why they voted for a rapist and felon. (Stockholm syndrome and the need to stay in the power hierarchy.)

I think that’s a really accurate take. Actually, @lyz wrote a really insightful piece on this: https://substack.com/home/post/p-150612586?r=12sec7&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Standing in solidarity with you, my friend! I'm heartbroken and terrified as you are. I also felt that nightmare on my chest, as you aptly described. In fact, I've been feeling physically sick and depressed since last night, and still shocked by the victory of evil and duplicity. I'm mourning deeply for our country and for the world, seeing how destruction and death pan out once Trump steps into the Oval Office. I'm particularly fearful of what may happen to the immigrant communities, and all communities that are marginalized.

Thank you, pal ❤️❤️ I also feel sick -- nauseous and heart racing etc. I'm so heartbroken seeing how many people voted for a leadership that lacks empathy, human decency, kindness, and so much more. How? I'm terrified for immigrants and other marginalized communities. I don't know what to do with all this fear and nausea.

Same here. I just don't know how to make sense of it all. Yet having been abused by a narcissistic and manipulative liar/cheater, I'm not blind to the existence of evil. Just stunned at the level of ignorance, cruelty, racism and misogyny in the population.

Oof, yeah. I'm so sorry you had that experience. The naivety of folks who think this won't be horrible... I'm just shaking and shaking my head.

What a long time ago this all seems to have happened, and yet how recent it was. I’m so glad our working together was a meaningful experience for you, especially since I was then just a baby editor! Take care.

It's crazy how much has happened, isn't it? The experience of working on that initial piece with you was really life-changing and I don't know that I've ever properly thanked you for it. You took me seriously and treated me with respect! That gave me the confidence to keep writing and set me on the path I'm on today — working as a professional writer :) Wishing you all the very best <3
