"Our capacity for compassion is one of the traits that, I believe, connects us to the divine." This is so beautifully said, Mikhal! And I totally agree that compassion is what we need to bring peace to the world, starting from how we raise children. I see the unspeakable pain in the world and the unspeakable pain inside individuals as a continuum. One doesn't cancel the other. The violence we see in the world is the "symptom" of emotional neglect, hurt or abuse dating all the back to childhood, even before conscious memory is formed (and to different extents, the bigger cultural, socio-economic and political environments that affect families). I believe that caring for your child and holding space for his emotional pain as one of the most important things you could do to bring peace to the world.

Thank you! I completely agree with you and am always *so* frustrated when other people don't see how true it is that hurt people hurt people. I feel like you really see what I'm saying and am so grateful for it. <3 <3

Yes, I see you. It can be so frustrating when others don't get you. Luckily there are others who do. And remind yourself how fortunate your kids have you as a conscious parent. I cry thinking of all the children in the world who don't get their emotional needs met... and then they have to struggle through life without support (well, I speak from personal experience, which makes me aware of the impact of stunted childhood emotional development on the rest of our life). Keep holding space for your kids' big emotions. And don't forget to do so for your inner child as well. 🤗

I am blown away that your (still so young!) Big Kid both dressed up as a dinosaur AND insisted your wife dress up as the asteroid that killed all the dinosaurs. I bet it’s his ability to hold multiple truths at once, rather than the book-throwing, that his educators have never seen. No wonder he has so many feelings. It speaks well for your family that your Big Kid knows you’ll help him carry all the truths ❤️‍🩹

Oh my goodness, I meant to answer this the *same day* and the time has just flown away.

Thank you so much! This comment made my heart swell to twice its size. I immediately showed it to my wife, who was likewise very moved by your ability and willingness to see the complex sweetness of Big Kid, who really does have a very rich understanding of the world and a sensitive, loving soul. Thank you, truly, for taking the time. This message meant so much to us both.
